DIY Salsa Jar Succulent Planter

And Other Ways to Reuse Empty Salsa Jars...

Earth Day is a great time to reflect on how our daily actions affect the environment around us. Every step we take towards a less wasteful way of living, although they may seem small, really do make a difference.

In honor of Earth Day we're sharing a few of our favorite ways to repurpose empty SALSAOLOGY salsa jars!

  1. Turn them into pencil/pen holders. Remove SALSAOLOGY sticker and lid, apply a coat of your favorite color paint, let dry, and ta-da: a perfectly sized pen/pencil holder for your desk at home or at the office.
  2. Turn them into spice holders. Remove SALSAOLOGY sticker, fill jar with spice, herb or condiment of choice, and label using a blank sticker and sharpie.
  3. Turn them into desk-sized flower vases. Remove SALSAOLOGY sticker, apply a coat of your favorite color of paint, or get creative and paint a pattern on, let dry, fill 1/3 of the way with water, and arrange favorite flowers into jar.

Our personal favorite way to reuse empty sauce jars is turning them into fun, functional succulent planters to enjoy year round! With just a few supplies and minutes you can transform your finished sauce jars into the cutest planter.

supplies:

  • Empty SALSAOLOGY Salsa Jars
  • Small Succulents
  • Soil
  • Rocks or Pebbles
  • Matte, Water Proof Paint
  • Sponge Paint Brush
  • Baker's Twine or Ribbon
  • Mini Razor Blade Scraper

instructions:

1. Remove stickers from empty SALSAOLOGY salsa jars using razor blade scraper. Remove any sticker residue with warm water and soap or goo gone.

2. Paint 1-2 coats of matte, water proof paint on the jars. Allow first coat of paint to dry before applying the second coat.

3. Place a few rocks or small pebbles at the bottom of the jar, followed by the soil, leaving the top soil packed less dense. These layers will allow for optimal drainage.

4. Gently place succulent into the middle of the jar of the mouth of the jar. Lightly pack it into the soil to hold it into place.

5. Wrap baker's twine or ribbon around the top or middle of the salsa jar.

6. Enjoy succulent year round! And please remember to recycle, year round!
