#JefaSpotlight: Jen Zeano, Jen Zeano Designs

This week we're so excited to spotlight designer Jen Zeano! Jen is the founder and creative director of Jean Zeano Designs (JZD), a lifestyle brand based out of South Texas. Mexicana and proud, Jen set out to create a brand that would allow her to celebrate her culture and share it with others. From t-shirts to sweaters to stationary and even home decor, JZD focuses on creating "rad things for the free spirits." Check out what Jen had to say about how she stays motivated in challenging times and the important lesson she's learned since beginning JZD.

What is your business and what inspired you to start it?

JZD is a Texas based lifestyle brand with a mission to empower the Latinx community through apparel and accessories that make you feel proud of our cultura. JZD began because we wanted to create something that made us, as Latinas, feel understood and represented. We wanted to create a brand that made our Latinx community feel loved and supported.

How do you overcome challenges and stay motivated?

I've learned that challenges happen no matter how well organized or how planned situations are but surrounding myself with an amazing team (my family and our intern Juliana) helps me deal with whatever comes our way. Keeping a positive mentality is also extremely important.

As for motivation, the number one thing that keeps me motivated is the idea of our business continuing to grow. JZD is my pride and joy and although running it is one of the hardest things I've ever done it is also what makes me the happiest.

What is an important lesson you’ve learned as a female latinx entrepreneur?

Know your worth and stand your ground! Many times we feel like we have to price ourselves lower or settle in order to succeed but that is not the case.

Best advice you’ve received and would like to share?

NO PASA NADA. I live by this. When running a business it is so easy to constantly be stressed, reminding yourself that everything will be okay and believing it is such a game changer. I know it seems easier said than done, but trusting the process and enjoying the ride, in my opinion, is the best way to run a successful business.
