Kick Off The Season of Giving with #GIVINGTUESDAY
Giving Tuesday has arrived to kick off the giving season! This international day of giving reminds us how important it is to give to others, especially during the holidays. Today we use the hashtag #GivingTuesday to spread the word through the power of social media and to inspire people to make positive changes in their communities through generosity.
This year we’re celebrating #GivingTuesday by donating to the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center (DWC). A portion of any online SALSAOLOGY purchase made between November 27th - December 4th*, will be donated to the DWC. *Edit: proceeds from online sales throughout the month of December will benefit the DWC.
The Downtown Women’s Center was founded in 1978 and became the first provider of permanent supportive housing for women in the United States. Even today, as mentioned on their website, the Downtown Women’s Center “is the only organization in Los Angeles focused exclusively on serving and empowering women experiencing homelessness and formerly homeless women.” DWC’s mission remains the same: to reduce and hopefully one day end homelessness for women in the greater Los Angeles area. The organization is working hard towards this goal by providing housing, wellness, and advocacy to women who need it.
The center offers a variety of programs to help women get back on their feet and onto the path of success. Programs include a health a wellness program, a permanent supportive housing program, a workforce development program, a community-based housing program, and an advocates program.
In addition to these program, the DWC also created MADE by DWC, an organization that provides job training and provisional jobs for women on the path to transition out of homelessness. The organization teaches women the social and maker skills in a supportive environment. MADE by DWC has a signature line of unique gifts named handMADE, with products ranging from candles to t shirts and more. Each purchase from the handMADE line directly contributes to the fight to end women’s homeless in the city.
SALSAOLOGY is a proud supporter of the Downtown Women’s Center through our year-round partnership with LA Original.Throughout the year, a portion of proceeds from our Ancho Chile & Tamarind sauce sales go directly to the Mayor’s fund to support MADE by DWC.
We hope that this #GivingTuesday and holiday season you’re inspired to give to others-- whether that be through volunteer work, a donation, or any other way you see fit. If you wish to learn more about the Los Angeles Downtown Women’s Center please visit their website.
