Let's Celebrate Women!

March is Women’s History Month— and while it’s important to celebrate women all year long, this month gives us an extra special reason to honor trailblazing women who have made and changed history! What originally began as “International Women’s Day”, later became a week-long celebration in the United States thanks to the work of feminist activists who were determined to revise school curriculum to include teaching students about women’s contributions to American history. As word of this movement and celebration spread across the country, it gained the support of many organizations and eventually Congress. In 1980, President Jimmy Carter proclaimed March 2-8, as the first “Women’s History Week”. By 1986, fourteen states had extended the week long celebrations to month long celebrations. In 1987, with the help of The Women’s National History Project’s continued petitions, Congress officially declared March as National Women’s History Month— a time to reflect on all the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women, both past and present.  As a woman-owned business, SALSAOLOGY is passionate about empowering and supporting women. We believe that there’s room at the table for all of us and celebrating each other’s victories, creates community and power.  Here are a few ways you can join in on celebrating women all month long… 1. Support women-owned businesses. Check out these stats, from the 2019 AMEX State of Women-Owned Businesses Report. 2. Donate items or time to your local women’s shelter. Take some time this month to help those in need. 3. Support female creatives— read their books, buy/share their art, watch their films, listen to their music. 4. Listen to inspiring woman-run podcasts. A few of our favorites: Girl Boss Radio, Wait Hold Up, Let There Be Luz! 5. Be a mentor to a young woman by sharing your expertise and experience. 6. Spread the word on social media. Share inspiring quotes from your favorite female leaders, the stories women who have inspired you, and articles/infographics about women achievements.
